Inner Mind. Chapter OneA bird sings high and loud in one of the trees lining the sidewalk. A short, rather stocky man, looking in his mid-40s or 50s gazes about in search of the bird, and his eyes land on a loud and colorful billboard across the street. Atamadachi, the only friend you will ever need, it says.
Atamadachi....I wonder whatever happened to mine..., the man muses as he continues walking.
Years before, a wonderful new company came into existence that had created a technology that worked solely in your brain. Future Generations Implications, Or FGI, created a new game they so creatively called Atamadachi, from the words Atama, head, and Tomodachi, friend, in Japanese, that became such a huge fad, it spread across the world. Atamadachi was used by attaching a small brightly colored sphere somewhere on your person, switching it on, and relaxing. Soon after, like a dream, you would see a screen, much like your computer. You would be asked to create your Atamad
mechanici want to kiss every aching wound you have,
bandage your heart every time it bleeds,
and patch up your mind over and over
because not a single tear deserves to fall
from your brandy-drenched eyes
but this dripping heart of mine can only feel
and the healing honey words it flames get caught
in the back of my throat and on the roof of my mouth
so i only have these passionate guttural cries
to tell you that i care all too much
and in order to fix you up again,
i would need to tear myself to tatters
and trade all of my working parts
for your leftover, fading pieces
but i just haven’t figured out how.
